Policy Impact
My work has contributed to and been cited in the development of new AI policy at the federal, state, and local level.
My research on New York City’s Local Law 144, which mandates employers conduct external bias audits of algorithms used in the hiring decision-making process, has been cited several times in expert testimony, public comments, and working groups, including:
- The NYC Commission on Racial Equity
- The Joint California Policy Working Group on AI Frontier Models
- Expert testimony to the Maryland Senate: here and here
- A letter to the California CCPA signed by over 40 research organizations, worker associations, and legal experts
- Reports from the Center for Technology & Democracy, the Ada Lovelace Institute, the Future of Privacy Forum, and the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
In 2023, I worked as a COMPASS Fellow for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration on their request for comments on federal policy for AI assurance. In addition to extracting and synthesizing key recommendations from over 1,400 public comments, I helped produce the AI Accountability Policy Report.
I have also contributed to expert comments in response to federal requests, such as this response on federal copyright policy.
